During pregnancy, particularly the first trimester, and during the lactation period, EMPACOD should only be taken under a doctor's supervision. WARNINGS: Dosages in excess of those recommended may cause severe liver damage. Administer cautiously to pre-psychotic patients who may form a dependence on codeine phosphate. DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Adults and adolescents over 12 years only. Unless otherwise directed, 1 tablet should be taken four times daily between meals with sufficient fluid. The tablet can first be dissolved in a little water. SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: PARACETAMOL: Sensitivity reactions resulting in reversible skin rash or blood disorders may occur. CODEINE: Side-effects may be constipation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and drowsiness. Skin rashes may occur in patients hypersensitive to codeine. Codeine may delay the absorption of other medicines administered concomitantly. INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER DRUGS: The depressant effects of codeine are enhanced by the concurrent administration of depressants of the central nervous system such as sedatives, tranquillizers, hypnotics, anaesthetics, phenothiazines and alcohol. Paracetamol may enhance the activity of coumarin anticoagulants. With concomitant use of certain drugs which increase the metabolism of paracetamol in the liver, (eg. hypnotics of the barbiturate type, anti-epileptics, rifampicin), liver damage can be induced by normal doses of paracetamol. This also applies to alcohol abuse. Consult your doctor if no relief is obtained with the recommended dosage. Do not use continuously for longer than ten days without consulting your doctor. KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT: PARACETAMOL: Symptoms of overdosage include nausea and vomiting, gastrointestinal haemorrhage, cerebral oedema, hyperglycaemia and hypoglycaemia have been reported. Liver damage which may be fatal may only appear after a few days. Kidney failure has been described following acute intoxication. CODEINE: Poisoning with codeine produces central stimulation with exhilaration, and in children, convulsions, followed by vomiting, drowsiness, respiratory depression and cyanosis and coma, Naloxone may be used to counteract respiratory depression and coma. In the event of overdosage, consult a doctor or take the patient to the nearest hospital immediately. Specialised treatment is essential as soon as possible. The latest information regarding the treatment of overdosage can be obtained from the nearest poison centre. Irrespective of the delivery method you choose, we always take responsibility up to the point of delivery, i.e. if your parcel goes missing or the contents are damaged, we will replace the affected items at no cost to you.

All our medicines are shipped from Johannesburg, South Africa. We deliver Worldwide via DHL, EMS, Global Express and the Post Office (Registered Airmail). Post Office delivery option is not suitable for Australia, Newzealand, USA and Canada because the Post Office sometimes takes a very long time to deliver in those countries. Global Express and EMS deliveries are guaranteed ! DHL is our preferred shipping method.

Please Note: We are no longer able to post liquid products such as Syrups outside of South Africa.

This is the fastest delivery method and can take as little as 3 days. Use it if you want your item to arrive within a few days.

  • Your parcel tracking reference number (Waybill number) will be emailed to you as soon as the parcel is accepted by DHL.
  • Order placed late Friday afternoon and during the weekend are usually processed on Monday/Tuesday.
  • Occasionally customers have reported that DHL in their country has asked them to pay additional delivery charges, claiming that OTCMedXpress was undercharged. Please note that OTCMedXpress has no control over this additional fee. Neither do we have control over any Customs Duty that may be imposed on the parcel.

Global Express

Global Express is an International Courier service available to most international destinations. The service is offered by "The Courier Guy", a South African private courier company with a global reach. This delivery option takes only 7-14 days to any destination in the World.

This is the fastest shipping option for USA and Canada where we can not use DHL. EMS may also be available in other countries outside the USA and Canada. The parcel will take an average of 12 days to arrive. In some countries, final delivery will be done by the local Post Office. Using your tracking number, you can track your parcel at:

Please note: FREE Shipping promotion is occasionally offered by the Post Office. Although our system allows it, DO NOT CHOOSE EMS at checkout. If you do, the order will come through but your parcel will be posted via Post Office. If you are in the USA, your parcel might take up to 6 months to arrive via USPS.

Post Office Airmail

This option is for postage via the South African Post Office. Parcel posted via the Post Office will normally take between 2-4 weeks to arrive. Parcels may take much longer to arrive due to the effects of the festive season, public holidays or industrial strike action. Use this delivery option if you are not in a terrible hurry to receive your order because lengthy delivery delays are not uncommon, sometimes for no apparent reason. Having said that, the SA Post Office has 99% delivery success rate. Please bear this in mind when selecting a delivery option for your order.

Tracking Parcels sent via the Post Office

OTCMedXpress always provides tracking information for Post Office parcels. However, please note that actual tracking is provided not by the Post Office itself but by third parties. This in itself makes the process of tracking Post Office parcels a bit complicated, besides the fact that actual tracking is only available within South Africa.

Once your parcel has been handed over to the Post Office, OTCMedXpress has no way of trying to expedite its movement through the postal system.

Please be guided accordingly !

Postage and Handling Charges

The correct delivery fee will be calculated at checkout. This cost will be based on a combination of factors such as number of items in the shopping cart (quantity), weight delivery option selected and delivery destination.

Additional Charges by Customs Office

Please note that we have no control over additional fees that Customs Officials in your country may impose. It may be a good idea to contact your local Customs Office to inquire about the legality of importing the desired product into your country before you place an order on this website. Therefore, please note that OTCMedXpress prices, shipping and handling charges do not include any custom duties or taxes that may be incurred or charged on international orders. These charges are beyond the control of OTCMedXpress and need to be paid by the customer. Read more ...
